Mention Ladakh to any Indian and you’re likely to hear the expression, "Heaven on Earth." That’s because they don't make mountains any bigger or wilder than the Himalaya. This is the land of the Ibex and the Snow Leopard, of ancient mountain monasteries, of faces so weathered by sun and wind that it’s impossible to know their ages. Ladakh is Tibet without the politics - where the Dalai Lama spends his downtime. “It can’t get any better than this!” became a running joke in our small group because every day, it did.
