The annual Marina del Rey boat parade is a spectacle of lights worthy of any photographer’s attention. Add in a sunset over the sea and a fireworks show to kick off the festivities and we really ramp up the opportunities to make some memorable photographs! So let’s MeetUp at 4:00 next to the ‘The Helmsman’ statue at the center of Burton Chace Park and see what digital damage we can do with our cameras.

Man’s best friend needs a helping hand, or at least a friendly Photographer’s Eye. We are working in conjunction with the South LA Animal Shelter to create compelling images of their pups up for adoption. The photos will be used on their website and other dog/pet adoption sites like petfinder.com and adoptapet.com.

I've had this image of the Milky Way over the Santa Monica Pier in my head for a while and the darkest skies of the month are happening this weekend. My handy dandy PhotoPills app (thanks, Senthil!) tells me that the stars will literally align (with the pier) roughly between 9pm and midnight. So if anyone wants to join me in trying to make this shot happen or create other night images, come meet me at the base of the Santa Monica Pier at 8:30pm this Sunday evening (Mar 26).

Our route will be a repeat of last year's Worldwide Photowalk Day (check out the event photo gallery). Even if you attended that event, it will feel completely different when you're shooting only with your phone. We start by walking the Venice canals and then make our way back to the beach and down the boardwalk past muscle beach and all the shops, arts & crafts stands, basketball courts, skatepark and public art walls.
