Join me on a Photo Expedition to the Russian Far East!
I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be exploring the Russian Far East with Heritage Expeditions in July 2020 for an all-new scouting adventure. I'm excited to explore this remote part of the planet – and I invite you to join me on this 15-day expedition next season in 2021!
One of Russia's most treasured wildlife sanctuaries, Wrangel Island is the Polar Bear denning capital of the world and a treasure trove of Arctic biodiversity. Often referred to as the “Polar Bear Maternity Ward,” this World Heritage Site has the largest density of denning Polar Bears anywhere in the world – averaging between 300 and 350 maternity dens each year – which means this is the best place to spot mamas and their cubs!
Situated 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle, Wrangel Island is also the northernmost nesting ground for more than 100 migratory bird species (many endangered) and home to a variety of fascinating species: musk oxen, reindeer, Arctic foxes, ground squirrels, colorful wildflowers and dwarf trees. And feeding in the surrounding nutrient-rich waters, Gray, Humpback, Orca, Bowhead, and Fin Whales can be spotted.
Starting and ending in Anadyr, Russia, explore the Chukotka Peninsula's abundant birdlife, breathtaking landscapes, isolated villages and warm local hospitality. Zodiac cruise along massive cliffs abounding with seabirds, hike across sweeping tundra landscapes, call into remote communities and admire whales from the vantage of your Zodiac. This voyage also includes a day at the annual Beringia Arctic Games and Chukotka Cultural Festival, which brings together and celebrates the indigenous communities of Siberia through traditional song and dance performances, whale-skin boat regattas, handmade arts, crafts and local foods.
'Chukotka: Where Russia's Day Begins' offers an unparalleled wilderness experience and an epic adventure of discovery – both for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike!
